The Social History Project: Exploring Our Cultural Heritage at the Shelburne Historical Society

The Senior Center, in collaboration with the Shelburne Historical Society, is proud to present The Social History Project, an engaging event delving into the rich tapestry of our cultural heritage. Taking place on Tuesday, June 27t, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., at the Shelburne Historical Society located at 33 Severance Street in Shelburne, this unique gathering promises to transport attendees back in time to explore various aspects of our society from the 1930s to the 1970s.

The event will feature esteemed speakers who have personally experienced and lived through the transformative years of the mid-20th century. Through captivating essays, these individuals will shed light on different facets of our culture, including transportation, food and dairy industries, childhood games, and family dynamics. Rather than merely reminiscing about the past, The Social History Project seeks to provide a holistic view of society during this era, examining how we navigated and managed the challenges and joys of everyday life.

Each essay will be followed by an interactive audience discussion, allowing attendees to share their own memories, insights, and perspectives. In addition, historical items and photographs will be on display, providing a visual journey into the past and serving as touchstones for further exploration and dialogue.

"We are thrilled to bring together this exceptional group of individuals who have experienced firsthand the cultural shifts and transformations of the mid-20th century," said Juli Moreno, Director of the Senior Center. "The Social History Project offers a unique opportunity to learn from their perspectives and engage in meaningful conversations about our shared heritage."

To enhance the experience, light refreshments will be served, allowing attendees to mingle, connect, and foster a sense of community. This event aims to bridge the generational gap by fostering intergenerational conversations and promoting a deeper understanding of the past.

Don't miss this extraordinary opportunity to step back in time and gain a deeper appreciation for the societal foundations that have shaped our present. Join us at the Shelburne Historical Society on Tuesday, June 27, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., at 33 Severance Street in Shelburne. Together, let's embark on a journey through time and discover the untold stories of our shared heritage.
